About Captain Kirk Waltz

Captain Kirk Waltz was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, a Southern town surrounded by water. He inherited his passion for fishing from his father who took him on fishing trips from the age of eight, to the backwaters of the Edisto, Ashley, and Cooper Rivers as well as the surrounding barrier islands next to Folly, Sullivans, and Isle of Palms beaches. Their trips to the Charleston jetties were most memorable. His dad would pull up to the big rocks and drop the boys off to walk the rocks and fish all day.

In the early 1970s, Captain Kirk moved to Cocoa Beach to attend college and fished the Indian and Banana rivers. Kirk met his wife, the lovely Kate Fee, in Cocoa and they enjoyed launching a canoe in their backyard to fish the canals or driving to Long Point Park to fish Sebastian Inlet for reds, trout, or Spanish.

They moved to Jacksonville Beach in the early '80s and had two children, Kyle and Lara, and one granddaughter, Madi. During this period Kirk spent considerable time fishing the waters of the St. Augustine and Mayport areas. In 1995 Kirk met Kevin Faver who was guiding and at his urging, got his USCG captain's license. Kirk was a field reporter and gave weekly reports on the Jax Beach-area fishing conditions. He joined the Outdoors Show as co-host and continues his work there.

Captain Kirk also writes for several local magazines such as Beaches Magazine and Coastal Angler Magazine also appearing on several prominent TV shows including What's your Opinion with Jim Clements, The Outdoors Show with Kevin Faver, and George Poveromo's World of Salt Water Fishing. He also has guided for CEO's of prestigous companies, mayor of Jacksonville, Senators, and even the famous Bill Dance. He is also a US Coast Guard instructor working for Quality Maritime School.
